The DCSF has recently put together some materials to support their target of raising the attainment of Black children in the UK. The resources should enable schools to meet their equal opportunities obligations under the <a href="http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2000/pdf/ukpga_20000034_en.pdf" target="_blank">Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000</a>.<br /><br />To access the materials, follow <a href="http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primary/publications/inclusion/esca_excl_enjy005808/" target="_blank">this link</a>. New Foundation Stage

As I'm sure many of you are already aware, today marks the introduction of the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in England. The new guidelines describe the 'curriculum' that under-fives are expected to adhere to, and will have an impact on the work of all those who work with young children.<br /><br />To learn more, you should really start by taking a look at the <a href="http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/eyfs/site/index.htm" target="_blank">official site of the EYFS</a>, which contains a wide range of resources, leaflets and much more information about the new guidelines and how they should be implemented. This <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7591433.stm" target="_blank">BBC story</a> should also be useful in telling you more about what the new EYFS entails.<br /><br />Appropriately, a new piece of research from the <a href="http://www.ioe.ac.uk/schools/ecpe/eppe/index.htm" target="_blank">EPPE Project</a> has highlighted the importance of a good pre-school education, by suggesting that high quality care at this age translates into successful outcomes in English and Maths by the age of 11.
