Education At A Glance 2013

Today sees the publication of the latest edition of the OECD's annual <i>Education At A Glance</i> report. This is a huge document, comparing a mass of information on education provision in dozens of different countries, from preschool right up to University level.<br /><br />The full report can be <a href="http://www.oecd.org/edu/eag2013%20%28eng%29--FINAL%2020%20June%202013.pdf" target="_blank">downloaded here</a>, though at 440 pages long you'd be forgiven for waiting for the 'Highlights' version which is promised shortly. There's a whole <a href="http://www.oecd.org/edu/eag.htm" target="_blank">mini-website</a> devoted to further supplementary documents and videos etc, while regular readers of this blog will probably be most interested in the 10 page <a href="http://www.oecd.org/edu/United%20Kingdom_EAG2013%20Country%20Note.pdf" target="_blank"><i>United Kingdom Country Note</i></a>, which summarises domestic education provision at this time.<br /><br />For further information about education systems in different countries, the <a href="http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/education/eurydice/index_en.php" target="_blank">Eurydice</a> and <a href="http://www.ibe.unesco.org/en.html" target="_blank">International Bureau of Education</a> sites are well worth a visit.<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="236" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ltABYOs6CZo" width="420"></iframe>

CORE

I've written on here before about CORE, so today's post is both a reminder and an update of how it may be useful.<br /><br />In recent years, many Universities have begun to set up Open Access research repositories, where various academic papers, conference presentations, journal articles and more produced by the academics at these institutions can be found. Access to these collections is generally free, but finding the material relies on the user knowing where the item they want is held.<br /><br />CORE aims to improve the visibility of these items by allowing users to search across (at last count!) 293 Open Access research repositories simultaneously. Once you've carried out your search, all of your results also have information about the authors, date, peer review etc of each item, so you know exactly what it is you're looking at, as well as a link to the full text.<br /><br />I've carried out a number of searches around various childcare / education topics, and was impressed with the range of material that's available out there. So it might be worth bookmarking this site in addition to the other places that you usually look for research information.
