The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment in Ireland (a rough equivalent of our DfE) has recently published two reports which site users may find useful. The reports are entitled Literacy in Early Childhood and Primary Education (3-8 years) and Oral Language in Early Childhood and Primary Education (3-8 years), and contain in-depth information on their respective topics.
